This is an album of 10 short piano solo pieces written for students from intermediate to early advanced levels. These 10 pieces are unfolding a complete story with 10 beautiful illustrations made by Lon Lee and Chinese calligraphy by Chiu Yuet Yung Millie. The music truly speaks for the story and it is highly beneficial for teachers and students to discuss how the music expresses the story. This is definitely an excellent teaching album to open up the students’ imagination and to let them expose their ears to the sound of 20th century music in a fun way.
Little C on His Own Way
In front of the two-way road, people often choose to follow the path taken by their forerunners. But, a boy called Little C, is determined to walk his own way. And wherever he goes, he leaves his footprints that looks like his initial “C”.
Two Kids on Horseback
When Little C gets tired, he saw a horse galloping from a distance. Someone is riding on it. It is his friend, Little D. Accepting his invitation, Little C gets on the horse and so the two buddies ride happily together.
In Two Words or Three
Unfortunately, Little C falls off the horse and there he faints. Not long later he wakes up only to find himself being somewhere in a city. In the hustle and bustle, he hears an old man singing his own story. His name is Big G.
Eyes On Eyes
A curious girl passes by and listens to Big G. Then she looks into Little C’s eyes and says, “My name is Little G Flat. How about you?”
The Father, the Son and the Five-Character Quatrain
Although Little G Flat has gone, Little C cannot stop thinking about her. He decides to create a song with lyrics about her. He composes and sings in front of Big G. Knowing that he is a bright child, Big G gives him much encouragement and takes him in as his son.
Haunted
It is now getting dark. Big G brings Little C to a temple to stay overnight. Little C gets intimidated by the statues of many unknown gods and goddess. With fear, he seems to hear a lullaby his mom used to sing.
Gabbling of the Creatures
A rush of voices have awakened Little C. When he opens his eyes, he finds himself surrounded by strange creatures!
The Pride and Pomp
Big G transforms himself into a fierce hero with ground breaking Kungfu technique. After just a few moves, he drives the creatures away.
Beyond the Clouds
Little C immediately runs to Big G to give him a hug of thanks. When he looks up, he cannot believe what he sees. Big G turns into a statue of Guan Yu! Feeling lost and confused, Little C hears a voice from the distant sky. It is the voice of Goddess Nuwa.
Finale
The heavenly song gradually brings Little C back to reality. He recalls all memories in his dream. The places where he has been, the people whom he has met and the unbelievable happenings will be well kept in his mind. He seems to foresee that apart from happiness, negative feelings such as failure, anxiety, fear, confusion and lost, etc., might knock his door one day. However, he is ready to face all of them for he will take it as a mean to gain wisdom and strength. Each day is worth celebrating for, with a healthy and positive mind.
